Begin/End
A compelling new Half Moon play for ages 14+
February - March 2010.
Sometimes things just end
Not like in films and on TV
Not with explosions and music and fights
They just dissolve and disappear and you don't know why
Lili pounds out her anger and uncertainty, one length at a time in the swimming pool. Yaz won't become what others want and aspires to a life elsewhere.
The birth of their friendship sparks two years of adventure, inseparable friends, a gang of two, they breathe freedom, possibility and ambition.
I want to plunge her fist into my ribcage
Wrap her hand around my heart so she can feel what it's made of.
But something unspoken grows between them. As relationships form and dissolve, it is the beginning and the end of everything.
Projection, moving image and a contemporary soundtrack by one of Britain's freshest new producers, invigorate this compelling tale that forces us all to question our own truths.
Begin/End National Tour 2 February - 27 March 2010
As well as dates in venues Begin/End will be visiting schools during the tour.

Half Moon has established itself as one of the foremost companies producing / presenting new plays by emerging writers for teenagers. Plays are developed with young people ensuring they speak to and reflect the diversity of young audiences.
Written by David Lane, an exciting new writer who recently adapted The Odyssey in a co-production for Salisbury Playhouse, Cheltenham Everyman and Sixth Sense in Swindon. David also teaches playwriting and dramaturgy on BA and MA courses at Goldsmiths, City University and Exeter University where he is Visiting Dramaturg.
Directed by Angela Michaels, Half Moon Associate Director recent credits include: Locked In and We Are Shadows (Half Moon), The Next Big Thing (The Albany)
Begin/End follows previous sucessful, hard-hitting plays for teenage audiences including Locked In (2008) "Constantly riveting, this is an exciting example of a contemporary show essentially designed for young persons." , We Are Shadows (2007) "beautifully constructed play...immaculately paced", Blowback (2005) "subtle and moving...a play with huge resonance for young people" and Cutter (2004) "be prepared to be shocked"
