Moyin’s Work Experience Blog

Day 1 (The First Day) – Tuesday 18 June 2024

It was my first day at the Half Moon Theatre and I was really excited to enter a working environment. I had my backpack ready, and I was prepared. I entered as Emily came to greet me. She then walked me to Androulla who was lovely to meet…. even though it has been a long time since I was here from Year 6. She gave me a tour of the building which I quite liked. I then went back to my desk and read through the work experience booklet while listening to ‘Espresso’ by Sabrina Carpenter. I was given my own lanyard as well. IT HAD MY NAME ON IT!! I was then introduced to the rest of the team. They were all very friendly. At my lunch break, I had lunch in the green room as Jackie, Emily and the others were also there. We had a good conversation on Politics and French.

I then went into the garden and had some fresh air. I then went back to my desk as I heard Justin Bieber’s song ‘Sorry’ on the radio, which I quite liked. Later that afternoon, I helped Ellie, Zoe, Saja and Fleur with supporting children at the Youth Theatre Session. The Year 6 children were so calm but Year 4’s and 5’s were hectic which I wasn’t pleased with but it was enjoyable to take part in the session. I also told Androulla and Malachi about my acting outside of school. Overall, it was a great first day at Half Moon.

Day 2 – Wednesday 19 June 2024

I arrived very early to Half Moon that day, so I sat in the garden space listening to ‘Starships’ by Nicki Minaj. At 12pm, I started writing this blog from Day 1. I then got started with tallying up surveys which was a task I was given by Lydia. It was a difficult task, but I was able to complete it with a bit of help. Later that afternoon, I helped Esther and Fran with the youth theatre session, like one I did on my first day. Furthermore, it was a great session to participate in as I was able to help the group with a practical demonstration by myself. Another great day at Half Moon overall.

Day 3 – Thursday 20 June 2024

I arrived early on my third day at Half Moon. I started off writing my blog on Day 2 which I noticed that Day 1 was quite long, but it had a lot of things that took place. I also watched Hot Orange which I thought was quite an interesting play to watch as it had strong topics around friendships. I started writing a live theatre review for the show which gave me good practice for when I write a live theatre evaluation in my GCSE Drama exam in 2025.  I then made Sabrina Carpenter comics for Lydia and Emily which they quite liked. I also made a special TLC comic for Androulla to say thank you as I wasn’t going to see her on my last day.

I joined Malachi, Saja and Hazel in with the Next Steps project which helped year 6 students transition into secondary school. I made a Justin Bieber comic for Saja and a Drake comic for Malachi. Saja didn’t tell me if I would enjoy this group, so I was going to watch the group myself and give her my honest judgement. They were a great group. Some people in this group I had worked with throughout my week at half moon. I had a great day that day as it was a busy day, but it was enjoyable. Overall, another great day at Half Moon.

Day 4 (The Final Day) – Friday 21 June 2024

I arrived early on my last day at Half Moon. It was quite disappointing, but I had a great time. I brought in biscuits for the staff to say thank you on my last day. Lydia told me I would watch the Marvelous Myth Hunter, which was a show that took place throughout the day. I helped Emily at the box office to get the primary schools ready to watch the first showing of the play, that took place that morning. It was an amazing show, and the kids really liked it. I then went to the lighting booth where Emily was. I volunteered to do an announcement at the beginning of the second showing of the Marvelous Myth Hunter that afternoon. I really enjoyed the second showing of the show as I was really upset that it was my last day, but I learned valuable skills and how stressful being in a workplace can be, even if it’s just for a couple of hours. I have enjoyed my time at Half Moon, and I hope to come back soon. I want to thank the whole staff for making this week enjoyable for me and I hope people that do work experience at the Half Moon theatre enjoy their time here as well.
